ORDA Drops New Designs
The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), manager of the facilities used during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid, has announced the release of a new suite of logo marks for its world-renowned Legacy Sites: the Olympic Center, Olympic Jumping Complex, Mt. Van Hoevenberg, and Whiteface Mountain, all located within the Adirondack High Peaks and just outside of the village of Lake Placid. This marks the first time in history that new logo marks will be used to represent the Olympic venues individually, representing and reflecting the distinctive features of each.
Trampoline Design was hired by ORDA to bring new life to its original icon while creating new marks for each specific site within the complex in an effort to differentiate and bring new attention to the venues. “The updated ORDA logo and the new venue logos are signals to the world that this Olympic Region’s treasured venues are part of a strong vision for the future,” ORDA says, “and are worthy of being celebrated among the pre-eminent facilities in the world.”
The logo system was designed as a collaborative rebranding, with Trampoline working with ORDA’s in-house designer to update these regionally beloved marks as a reflection of the area as a whole. The result is a modernized, bold brand system that can be used individually or together across the organizations operations.
Art Director Rob Hendricks was very involved in the creation and revisions of the Legacy site logos, cross-family, with the help of Emma Prendeville, who managed the account. Both team members are accomplished skiers and ORDA pass holders.
"One of the most rewarding things about design is the ability to influence and interact with industries that you are passionate about. In the case of Whiteface, I had the rare opportunity to sculpt the identity of one of my favorite destinations. Now, when I pull into the base lot on a snowy Saturday morning, it'll be with a sense of great pride for our work as well as the anticipation of a day on the slopes." —Rob Hendricks, Art Director
ORDA began rolling out the new logo marks for its legacy venues as of November 2 while continuing to use the original icon for the overarching organization. The rebrand comes at the same time as local tourism and economic authorities aim to modernize the area’s assets in the lead up to the FISU 2023 Winter World University Games being help in Lake Placid.
